Blackout
Best Practice & FAQs: Notification Blackout Periods
Can I configure the system to have a notification blackout period?
The system currently applies a default blackout period for automated email notifications.
By default, automated emails are not sent between 18:00 and 08:00. This blackout period is aligned to the system/server time.
This helps reduce out-of-hours email notifications for users, particularly where notifications are generated automatically by the system.
Does the blackout period apply to all notification types?
No. The blackout period applies to automated email notifications only.
SMS, in-app and push notifications do not currently follow the same blackout period. These notification types are typically triggered by user action or manual processes rather than automated system schedules, and are generally less intrusive than email.
Can the blackout period be changed?
The blackout period is currently managed at system level and is not configurable by individual users or customer admins.
If a different notification schedule is required, please raise this with your Onos contact so it can be reviewed.
Best practice
Where possible, teams should review which notifications are enabled and who receives them to make sure users are only notified about information that is relevant to their role.
For time-critical processes, it is important to consider that automated email notifications may be held during the blackout period and sent once the blackout period ends.
